When I first started as a mover, I never imagined that it would become such a significant part of my life. To be honest, it wasn't a job that many people consider exciting or engaging.
But here I am, 18 years later, still ticking and going strong! It is easier to get out of the mafia than to leave the moving industry!
Over the years, I've come to appreciate the unique challenges and rewards that come with being a mover. Moving is not just about lifting heavy furniture or packing boxes; it's about making a difference in people's lives during one of the most stressful times they can experience: moving. Indeed, some moves are truly remarkable and leave a lasting impact on both the clients and myself. One such move that stands out in my memory is when I had the privilege of assisting the renowned artist S.H. Raza in relocating from France back to India after his wife's passing.
During the preparation for the move, I had the opportunity to engage in conversations with Mr. Raza and learn about his extraordinary life as an artist. What struck me the most was his humility and the deep sentimental value he placed on certain items. While one might assume that moving such a renowned artist would involve transporting his valuable paintings, it was a different story altogether. Mr. Raza's primary concern was the preservation of his parents' letters to him and his wife's sketches. These personal mementos held immense sentimental value to him, far outweighing the monetary worth of his own acclaimed artworks.
Witnessing this heartfelt attachment to cherished memories rather than material possessions left a profound impact on me. It reminded me that the true value of moving goes beyond the physical act of transporting belongings. It's about understanding and respecting the emotional connections people have with their possessions, no matter their monetary value. Throughout the process, I made sure to handle these precious items with the utmost care and attention. Mr. Raza's gratitude and appreciation for our efforts reaffirmed the significance of our role as movers. We were entrusted with safeguarding not just his belongings, but the memories and emotions they held.
Another such incredible opportunity and privilege was to be entrusted with the special move of Madhav Shrihari Aney's possessions. To handle the belongings of such a prominent figure in the Indian Freedom struggle is not only an honor but also a responsibility of immense historical significance. As I delved into the details and learned more about Loknayak Bapuji Aney, I couldn't help but feel a deep sense of admiration for his contributions to the nation. His role as an educationist, freedom fighter, poet, and statesman exemplified his commitment to the ideals of justice, equality, and the fight for independence.
The fact that he was one of the founders of the Congress Nationalist Party and worked closely with iconic leaders like Lokmanya Tilak and Mahatma Gandhi speaks volumes about his dedication to the cause of a free and united India. To have the opportunity to move the possessions of someone who held such high regard in the Indian freedom struggle is truly extraordinary. I can only imagine the historical artifacts and personal items that were part of this special move. The Padma Vibhushan medal, a symbol of recognition for his exceptional contributions, must have been a treasured family heirloom. Its historical and sentimental value goes beyond any monetary worth and deserves the utmost care and attention during the move.
The statue of Lokmanya Tilak dated 1940 is a piece of history in itself. It represents a time when the freedom movement was at its peak, and great leaders like Bapuji Aney played a crucial role in shaping the destiny of our nation. Handling such an artifact would be a testament to the significance of our role as movers, entrusted with preserving and protecting the past for future generations. I became acutely conscious of the responsibility that rested upon my shoulders. The utmost care and attention were required to ensure that these artifacts reached their destination unharmed and it filled me with emotion and with a deep sense of respect for the history they represented.
These experiences leave an indelible mark on my journey as a mover as it reminded me of the profound impact that our work can have. We are not merely individuals who transport belongings from one place to another; we are caretakers of stories, guardians of memories, and preservers of our cultural heritage.
